Gay Marriage in Mass. & Domestic Spying
So this is my first blog. I've noticed that lots of people have things to say about all kinds of subjects. I'm not what I'd call an expert on technology, art, or business. But I do have opinions. So here we go.
In the news today they said that a Maryland judge rejected a ban on same-sex marriage. And of course there will be appeals and challenges. But I was still glad to hear it. It just gives me some satisfaction to know that not all people are completely insane.
So what else is there? Oh well of course there's always the domestic spying program and now Google has refused to turn over records of peoples' searches to the government. I don't even know how I feel about all this. Of course I can't stand Bush and his administration. But the question is...is it legal? Is it needed to "keep us safe"? Well I can't answer those questions. I am neither a legal scholar nor am I a terrorist expert. What I do know is that it is not just permissible for us to question our government...its our responsibility. We're talking about our civil liberties. Is that something we really want to just toss by the wayside. Maybe the administration is completely within its legal jurisdiction. But that should not stop a responsible citizen from applying some critical thinking, seek out the information, and make up their own mind.
